When her aunt left her a run-down property in Wilmington, N.C., much-married widow Mary Catherine Roberts converted the upstairs of the old building to an apartment for herself and her cat Baylor while using the downstairs as a short-term animal shelter. On the way home from radio station WRSC, where she hosts a popular pet show, animal psychic Mary Catherine "hears" plaintive cries from a nearby house and discovers a wounded turtle and the dead body of her station manager Colin Jamison's wealthy aunt.
