It also appeared reasonable to believe that the earth was a stationary center to the planetary system. Of course, time and investigation proved both of these beliefs to be false. The work of scientists such as Galileo and Newton helped to reveal basic laws of motion that still are applicable. In this volume of the "Secrets of the Universe," readers are introduced to the work of scientists who studied various elements of motion. A wide variety of motion-related scientific principles are presented as well as the researchers who promulgated them. As in other books in this series, experiments are described for youngsters who wish to test the scientific laws discussed in the text. A resource section is included that offers books for further reading and related web sites. Yet, as is the case with other books in the author's series, this is a text that perplexes the reader. Science can be a magical field when learners are afforded a look into the amazing complexity of the world. However, when the writer includes language that is far too technical, it bogs down the narrative. Further, the writing style in this book is arid and lacking in interest.
