This book reflects the evolution and testing of various models of stress, coping, and health and their particular relevance for the profession and discipline of nursing. Selected for inclusion in this text was content considered to be the most thoroughly developed and studied within the nursing perspective. There is a balance between theoretical development, research, measurement, and implications for practice and to critique the content within those contexts. Booknews Nursing and non-nursing scholars in the field of stress and coping synthesize the findings over the past three decades on the relationship of stress and coping to health. They intend the result to serve as a primary source for graduate students and possibly a secondary source for undergraduate students in nursing and other health-care sciences. They discuss the diverse conceptualization of the relationship and their importance in nursing, the response- oriented and stimulus-oriented theories of stress, theories that purport to describe or predict the relationships of stress and coping with health outcomes, and moderating factors affecting the relationship.
