There are many helpful hints, such as counting small toy pieces when toys are put away so children will not find any and perhaps swallow them. Solutions to certain problems are also given. For example, if the fire alarm goes off, hurry outside with your charge. If your charge wants to go back in for a favorite toy, do not give in to the demands. Another topic is how to avoid problems by practicing prevention. For example, being aware of allergic food reactions is easy. If the parent does not tell you, ask and check food labels before feeding a child. There is also an emergency checklist at the back of the book. You need to have emergency phone numbers handy at all times. Another is the location of a first-aid kit. A glossary explains the Heimlich maneuver and CPR. There is also a list of photographs in each chapter to illustrate chapter material. A reading list and Internet sites are also included. There are colorful photographs in each chapter that illustrate the text. Babysitting Safety is a nicely written book that will help young people learn how to take better care of children.\ \
