Media coverage suggests that teenagers today are the most violent, sexual, and amoral in history. The U. of Arizona's Nichols and Good show how news reports are exaggerating teen misbehavior, and they present a problem not covered in the news—that a growing number of young people are being left to socialize themselves. Their study finds that a general indifference toward youth as a group permeates adult society, preventing the proactive policies necessary to provide young people with quality education, health care, work and play environments, and active support.
